Wertfrei Wednesday: ‘Poor’ Myths

“If only they would work harder”…”They enjoy living in abject poverty”… “They’re just looking for handouts”…”I don’t want my money going to the lazy and shiftless”

We’re all familiar with the usual soundbites from upper middle class and the upper classes about the lower middle and poor class Americans. If just by virtue of hard work, then the poor worldwide would all be millionaires! These days it proves ‘it’s who you know, not what you do’ that matters. Corporations are people, remember?  And Money is now free speech!

All those jobs that went overseas and corporate headquarters that moved just means you’re ‘lazy and shiftless’.  Their actions are besides the point, don’t you know?  America is turning into a vast wasteland, virtually and in reality. Corporations moving jobs and HQ’s to avoid paying livable wages and taxes means America’s infrastructure is crumbling: hospitals, health care, transportation (roads, bridges, etc) but the rich and rich politicians are stealthy about placing blame on the working and poor.

And you’re falling for it.

What can you do? Research for yourself! See what the true unemployment numbers are.  See which headquarters of what corporations moved overseas and who is avoiding paying taxes. Ask your politicians and representatives what their votes have been on taxes for corporations, how they voted on healthcare measures, what they voted for the transportation bills.

Otherwise, America will no longer be the beautiful.
