I’ve decided to ask people to give to ShelterBox. The People ofJapan have suffered not one, but four disasters: earthquake, tsunami, volcano and now nuclear fallout. Hopefully nothing else happens so they can get back on their feet. Japan is a beautiful country, visually, culturally and socially. What they need right now, is basic quality of living. ShelterBox can help with that.
ShelterBox USA is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization. Contributions are tax-deductible to the extent allowable by law. ShelterBox’s HQ is in Cornwall in the UK. There are 18 international affiliates.
Basically, each box supplies an extended family of up to 10 people with a tent and essential equipment to use while they are displaced or homeless.
ShelterBoxes are sponsored by service clubs, Rotary Clubs, school and church groups, businesses and individuals throughout the USA and around the world.
Materials are ordered from a range of suppliers selected for general use, long-life, quality and price. ShelterBoxes are prepared and packed using all new materials as delivered from manufacturers, at the ShelterBox warehouse based in Helston, Cornwall.
The standard ShelterBox weighs 110 lbs. and has approximate dimensions of 2’3″ x 1’4″ x 11″. They are sealed and banded for transit and security. Box contents vary depending on the nature of the disaster requiring their use.
The donation required to sponsor a whole ShelterBox is $1,000 (US). Smaller donations are also gratefully accepted. All donors will receive a tax-deductible receipt and later notification of the box number(s) associated with their contribution.
