Just for Two : A Handbook of Cookery for the Small Household

Being a lover of cookbooks, I saw this at a local antique store and could not believe there was an original cover still on such an old book. One written by Lily H. Wallace herself!  Lily H. Wallace, the quintessential cookbook and lifestyle author in the 20th century was beloved by millions of housewives across the country for her no nonsense writing style, easy to use recipes and common sense shopping and meal planning style tips.  Many cookbook authors have emulated her style of writing, having a few of them myself.

In Just for Two, Lily H. Wallace gives week long menus for each month of the year, easy recipes to follow with ingredients readily available at your local grocery store. There are recipes and meal planning that uses leftovers in new and innovative styles. Substitutions can be made with healthier ingredients if wanted, which those of us with health issues such as diabetes, heart disease and heart other issues, internal organ issues, blood pressure and so on.

There are chapter introductions and chatty, breezy explanations throughout the cookbook. Much planning went into this little gem and it is no wonder that Lily H. Wallace was so loved. This cookbook would be perfect for singles and empty nesters, RV/Boat living, those living in senior and disabled housing. There is certainly enough recipes for everyone to find something they love and to give a variety to their meal planning.

I would give Just for Two 5 stars, readily.
