Monday Book Review: Homestyle Vegetarian

Homestyle Vegetarian by Bay books

From the back cover: With more than 150 recipes of diverse origins and flavors, Homestyle Vegetarian is an indispensable reference for every home cook. Designed for easy use, each recipe is accompanied by a beautiful photograph of the finished dish as well as step-by-step photographs showing the techniques involved. Every recipe is written in a clear and concise style and has been triple-tested by our team in the test kitchen.

My review:

I bought this book on clearance when Borders was going out of business a few years ago. I love vegetarian cooking and incorporate as much as I can into my diet. The recipes use fresh, healthy ingredients with a minimum of processed foods. They are easy to follow, though some steps in the process may require some time and effort, they are not out of reach of the everyday kitchen cook.

The pictures are high gloss and do show what the expected outcome for each recipe is, but do not worry if your finished product does not look the same.  Remember, they are professional chefs, with professional grade equipment, have food designers and professional photographers.  I have made a few of the recipes myself and have done well.  There are recipes for every level of cook and the ingredients can be found in most any grocery store.

I would give Homestyle Vegetarian 5 stars for healthy ingredients and ease of use.
