Seattle’s Ferris wheel, picture taken by me, Fall 2012.
Gray days and going in circles. Sometimes life feels like one big Ferris wheel, going in circles, stuck in a rut, going nowhere fast.
But look on the other side: You’re in familiar territory, you get to see the highs, you know how to deal with the lows. The great thing about Ferris wheels, is you can get off anytime you like and visit the places you’ve seen from the heights.
If you find yourself stuck in a rut, try doing something out of the ordinary for you. Even if it’s walking a different path on your daily walk, you’ll see something new to talk over with friends. The thing about ruts, is we never see ourselves in them. We see the views changing from time to time and fool ourselves into thinking we’re seeing something new.
You know the definition of doing the same thing over and over again, expecting different results? Insanity. And not the over-exuberant work out videos (that can be extremely dangerous!) with trainers screaming at you to switch exercises one after the other. No, insanity is experiencing the same things out of life day in and day out, expecting something exciting to happen.
Get involved with something outside of yourself and your daily life. Try something new, even if it is a different Ferris wheel.
