Monday Book Review: Awakened Within

Book Description

Publication Date: May 16, 2011
In order to make the nightmare stop, Vienna Rossi, realizes she must take matters into her own hands. She’s compelled by an unseen force to hop on a last minute flight to track down a murderer.

Awakened within her is a psychic gift she never knew she had, a handsome spirit guide who drives her nuts, and the ability to help lost souls crossover to the other side.

Vienna and her spirit guide, Jack, team up with Vienna’s best friend, Kim, for a dangerous, murder solving, ghost hunting adventure.

My Take

Very cute paranormal/mystery, may be within the first few books for the author, writing is at times stilted and choppy. Scenes are written well, characters are developed beyond their immediate use-which few authors are able to complete. The main character, Vienna, comes across as a spoiled rich valley girl, making vapid first impressions of people and not wanting to delve deeper, but that may be what the author intended.

Reactions to the paranormal are divided between scared and pissed, which can be confusing for the reader. A little continuity can be a great thing in a book. The book does move at an acceptable pace, there weren’t any scenes that dragged. The writing style reminds me a little of Heather Grahams.

Overall, an enjoyable read to wile away a few hours. I would give 4 stars.
