Had my annual hearing test with the audiologist and the hearing loss is stable at 80% which is in the moderate/severe category, while the speech discrimination loss is worse at 25%/32% which is in the profound category. The Dr. found my lip reading skills at ‘astounding’, so if i can see your lips, I can hear better.
She’s wanting me to get new hearing aids, called oticon chili + accessories, with payments possible. Hearing aids would be $2651, loopset + microphone would add $750. Decisions, decisions. The hearing aid itself, pictured above, is about the same size as what my 8 year old hearing aids I have now. I would love to get them, but social security only stretches so far, as so many of you understand.
My question to her was, would the advanced hearing aids help the profound loss of speech discrimination. She really did not know but thought it would drastically help my understanding. I would love to get the accessories, the loopset and personal microphone. Plus, i’m still not sure trying to get the funding would be worth the hassle, since I’ve lost approximately 75% of my Speech Discrimination. Thoughts?
