Had my annual hearing test with the audiologist and the hearing loss is stable at 80% which is in the moderate/severe category, while the speech discrimination loss is worse at 25%/32% which is in the profound category. The Dr. found my lip reading skills at ‘astounding’, so if i can see your lips, I can hear better.
She’s wanting me to get new hearing aids, called oticon chili + accessories, with payments possible. Hearing aids would be $2651, loopset + microphone would add $750. Decisions, decisions. The hearing aid itself, pictured above, is about the same size as what my 8 year old hearing aids I have now. I would love to get them, but social security only stretches so far, as so many of you understand.
My question to her was, would the advanced hearing aids help the profound loss of speech discrimination. She really did not know but thought it would drastically help my understanding. I would love to get the accessories, the loopset and personal microphone. Plus, i’m still not sure trying to get the funding would be worth the hassle, since I’ve lost approximately 75% of my Speech Discrimination. Thoughts?
New Streamer Pro – the heart of ConnectLine – puts you in total control. Not only of program shifts and hearing aid volume, but of all sources of audio-based information, entertainment and communication.
By picking up the audio signal and sending it straight into both ears, the Streamer turns a pair of hearing aids into a small wireless headset. With no detectable delays in transmission, audio signals perfectly match any visual images. This can make all the difference when watching TV or using a computer.
With ConnectLine microphone, you can participate and interact in some of life’s most important situations – on equal terms with everyone else.
Demanding listening situations such as crowded or noisy environments often make understandable communication impossible. ConnectLine microphone changes this.
ConnectLine microphone is a discreet microphone that connects wirelessly to the Streamer and lets you enjoy clear and private one-to-one communication in challenging listening environments. Listening performance is dramatically improved where one-to-one conversations before were difficult or even impossible.
