Monday Book Review: Out of Time (Time Series Book 1)

Out of Time (Time Series Book 1)  by Deborah Trescott

Cute Paranormal Cozy with a hint of Romance

Downloaded as a free kindle ebook in my cozy mystery period. I’m a lover of all things paranormal and thought the premise was cute. Loved the mystery of time travel, the unexpected arrival, confusion and confession. Trescott does a great job with characterization, wording/wordsmithing of the new arrival. You get a mix of gentlemanly behaviour and modern chic mixing and matching.

You travel with both characters to the coast, you meet a great melting pot of people, each with a different agenda, so that you feel the pull and push of the woman–her mother pushing her buttons, her children pushing away into independence, seemingly not wanting or needing her, an ex-husband pulling at her emotions-being manipulative and passive aggressive. Then the time traveler, just going along, getting used to modern times and conveniences.

Trescott does an amazingly good job looking at modern times through the eyes of someone from long, long ago. The two lead characters rush somewhat through science and technology, evading brushes with the law and dealing with the troublesome ex-husband. The sub-plots are well-thought and written, I would almost believe Trescott based this on reality.

I loved the description of place and time throughout the book, these are places I would try to visit, which is the mark of a really talented writer.

I would give 4 stars.
