Healthy Thursday: Dental Care in the United States

My question is why isn’t Dental Care free in the United States? We are supposedly the richest nation on earth with the best ‘health care available’ for everyone. More like, the U.S. has the ‘best health care’ for anyone rich enough to afford it. Like many on Social Security and Medicare, there isn’t a whole lot of affordable dental care available. We either have to save our social security money, after bills are paid, or buy a pricey dental care plan.  I had one a few years ago and discovered I could either pay premiums/copays/fees OR dental care.

Dental care is so needed for a variety of reasons: health, dental issues can carry many health issues, obviously dental caries/cavities. Poor teeth can lead to poor nutrition, sickness, not to mention self-esteem issues, depression and isolation. The U.S. Government is so careful to inundate the public with flyers, commercials, ads of the importance of dental care and seeing a dentist. How are we supposed to pay for it? Millions on Social Security, Unemployment, low-wage jobs have dental care so far out of our reach, that Politicians are completely out of touch. Not to mention the American Dental Association.

There is something desperately wrong with the United States, when Politicians actively block national health care for her citizens.
