Happy Summer Solstice 2018! Today is the official start of the Summer Season, where we collectively play on beaches, bustling cities and backyards. Families make plans to go camping, connect with the great outdoors and each other (remember the sunblock!)
The Solstice is a fantastic time to renew those New Years Day Resolutions! Eating healthy and exercising are the two most promised resolutions and summer has so many opportunites to get back on track. There are the many fruits and vegetables that abound in grocery stores and farmers markets. Some match food stamps dollar for dollar through community grant programs, to help your food stamps go farther. Take advantage of grocery store savings cards and coupons to stretch those food dollars. I’ve been enjoying summer fruits myself, cantelope, muskmelon, watermelon. Great for healthy skin and eats fat!
If you’re taking advantage of the many summer activities, do so within your health limits, wear hats, sunblock and if you are prone to skin cancer, lightweight long sleeve t-shirts and linen or athletic pants. Stay safe and hydrated as you cycle, jog, hike and walk those parks, waterfronts and forest trails. Take a backpack, messenger bag or tote with water, more sunblock to reapply, snacks and shades. If you’re going to sit and stay, take your ereader full of new books, turn off the wifi, disconnect with the world and reconnect with yourself.
Be aware, be careful and be safe!
